Wisdom is Calling – Reflections on Proverbs 8

Desperation… have you ever been at a point of desperation, knowing that if something doesn’t change you will not make it?

I have. There was a time, not so long ago, that I came to understand I needed God more than anything. I realized the sin I was being ruled by was also what was ruining me. I was finally able to hear the voice of truth — the voice of Wisdom— Jesus who had been calling to me all along.

In today’s Proverb we read that Wisdom calls out to us. It is always before us inviting us to choose it’s ways:

”Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.“

Proverbs 8:10-11 NIV

Jesus, the Wisdom of God, is calling out to us today. (1 Corinthians 1:30) We are to choose Him and desire Him above all. He is worth more than anything we can possess or experience in this world. We are blessed when we listen to Him. We are blessed when we watch for Him, wait for Him, and find Him. Because in Him is true life, and favor from God. (Proverbs 8:32-34)

It is when we “fail to find” Him and we love Him less or “hate” Him, we harm ourselves. We are actually loving or having our affection set on death itself. (Proverbs 8:35-36)

We choose: Will we pursue life in Jesus the Wisdom of God or pursue death by following our own ways?
