The Bible Book of the Month Club The Gospel of Mark — Mark 12:1-17

Today is Mark 12:1-17 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

“Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” - verse 17

The religious leaders of Jesus’s time rejected Him. They perceived Jesus as a threat because He only cared about what His Heavenly Father thought and commanded, not all their man made laws and traditions. So they looked for ways to trip Him up in what He did and said over and over.

They came to Jesus with a question on taxes. Jesus’s reply strikes a chord in my heart this morning. He told them to pay what was Caesar’s to Caesar- the coin bearing Caesar’s image. BUT He turned it around to point to something in the very heart of the Religious leaders and each of us . “Give to God what is God’s.”

The coin beared the image and inscription of Caesar on it. We are like that coin. We bear an image and inscription upon us — the image and inscription of our Maker, God. Therefore, we belong to Him. We are to give “to God what is God’s”— our entire self!

The Bible Book of the Month Club The Gospel of Mark — Mark 10:33-53

Today is Mark 10:32-53 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Verses 43-44

If I truly want to be like Jesus, I must serve and give my life away. When I follow Him, my ways, my thoughts, my desires, and ambitions must go. My life is no longer about me, but Jesus.

The world says “follow your heart”, but Jesus says “pick your cross and follow me.” The world says “listen to your truth,” but Jesus says, “I am the way the truth, and the life.” The world says, “acquire wealth, recognition, and self fulfillment.” Jesus says “serve and give up your life.”

We must choose. The world’s way seems right, but it ends in death. The Jesus way is the only way to abundant life.

The Bible Book of the Month Club The Gospel of Mark — Mark 9:30-50

Today is Mark 9:30-50 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

We are born selfish. Our tendency is to figure out how to put our thoughts, our desires, and our feelings first. Our world tells us to “live our own truth”, “follow our hearts”, and “chase our dreams.” The disciples exhibited this selfish nature as they walked along the road arguing with each other over who was the greatest.

Jesus told His disciples the way to greatness in His kingdom. “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” The nature of a servant is to serve and to give up their selfish ambitions in order to please their master.

Life is not about the positions we attain, but the pursuit of Jesus. His Lordship means we give up ourselves, listen to His Word and obey it fully. We serve Him and those whom He puts in our path to serve. This is greatness in His Kingdom!

The Bible Book of the Month Club the Gospel of Mark — Mark 8:22-38

Today is Mark 8:22-38❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

In 1991, Steve Camp wrote a song called “Consider the Cost.” One phrase from it’s lyrics has stuck with me through the years. “To give all that you are for all that He is, this is the gospel according to Jesus.” There is so much truth in that statement.
In verses 34-37, Jesus plainly states that if we want to be His disciple, we must take up our cross and follow Him. To take up our cross is to let our plans, our will, our thoughts, our desires, die so His can live in us. It is losing our selfish self life, letting it die, so that the life of Jesus can be lived in us. It is as the lyrics of that song proclaimed — “giving all that we are for all that He is.”

A few years ago I was at a decision in my spiritual journey… my way which was producing death, darkness, and destruction, or Jesus way which would require that my way would be nailed to the cross to die. When I chose Jesus way and not my own, dying to myself, I finally experienced peace.

The only way to a vibrant and fulfilled life is to “take up your cross and follow Jesus. Lose your life to gain His!”

The Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark (Mark 5:1-20)

Today is Mark 5:1-20 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

What a miracle! A man with no hope, who lived in a graveyard and was possessed by many demons was set free with the words “Come out of this man…” spoken by Jesus.

The man begged to go with Jesus in the boat, but Jesus had another plan for him.

“Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This man obeyed what Jesus told him to do, and “all the people were amazed” by His testimony.

What has Jesus done for you? Proclaim it! People need to hear the amazing things what God has done! God is so real and still does miracles!

The Bible Book of the Month Club the Gospel of Mark — Mark 4:26-41

Today is Mark 4:26-41 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

“”Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”” Verse 41.

Crowds followed Jesus. Some followed out of curiosity. Some followed wanting to hear Him speak. Some followed looking for a miracle. Everywhere He went there was amazement over the words the people heard and the miracles they saw. The disciples were able to experience all that Jesus said and did on a personal level. I’m sure what they saw left them standing with their jaws dropped time after time.

In this section, Jesus does the impossible once again. I love the response of the disciples… “Who is this?”

Jesus is the same today as He was when He calmed the storm over 2000 years ago. Walking and talking with Jesus should leave us in a sense of amazement time after time. When He speaks to us and we see Him do the impossible in our lives we should respond the same way they did long ago, “Who is this? Even this is not too hard for Him.” You cannot experience God in a close relationship and not be left in awe of what He does!

God is a God of miracles! You may ask, “how can you say this with confidence?” I have seen them with my own eyes and experienced them time after time. I have been left saying, “Who is this? Even my storms of anxiety and fear, obey His voice of peace!” (This is just one miracle. There are so many more miracles I’ve seen and experienced. God is real!! 😉)

May we be left in awe time after time as we recognize the amazing things He does and is doing in our lives.

Testify!!

The Bible Book of the Month Club the Gospel of Mark — Mark 3:20-34

Today is Mark 3:20-34 ❤️🙌🔥 for the “Bible Book of the Month Club — The Gospel of Mark”

It is hard for me to understand how the people of Jesus’s time saw Him physically in action healing the sick, casting out demons, performing miracles and still didn’t believe in him. His family thought he was “out of his mind.” (Verse 21) The teachers of the law i.e. religious leaders said he was “possessed by Beelzebul” … demon possessed.

The people of our time are not any different. When we see Jesus for who He is, a choice has to be made. We either embrace Him as God’s Son and Lord of our lives — following Him. Or we choose to disregard Him, His teaching, and His sacrifice on the cross. We cannot come to God on our own terms and in our own way.

Jesus says something in verse 35 that is profound. “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” If we want to be in relationship with Him, we have to do His will. What is the will of God for us? Jesus tells us God’s will in the Gospel of John.

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”” John‬ ‭6‬:‭40‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God’s will for us is to look to Jesus and Believe — “ this assent of the mind, a yielding of the will and affections, accompanied with a humble reliance on Christ for salvation. “ Websters 1828

Believe in Jesus!

Christmas — God’s Invitation to Experience Him — Luke 24

There is something about a newborn baby being held upon your chest— the sweet smell, the warm cuddles, the tiny cries. The experience of holding your own is like none other.

At Christmas we celebrate the arrival of Jesus the newly born King and the experience of Him as He walked upon the earth 2000 — miraculous touch upon those He healed, the sound of His voice speaking the truth on a hillside, His laughter, His compassionate tears. Yes, Jesus was God’s invitation for us to experience Him!

Even in Jesus’s death we were invited to experience God — a voice crying it is finished, darkness, the earth shook, the temple veil torn. Then Jesus defeats death by His resurrection and once again the disciples were invited to experience Him.

“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”“
Luke 24:36-39 NIV

Look at me, touch me, and see! Experience Me as the Risen King!

Jesus is still inviting us to experience God! This is the very essence of the story of Jesus we read in the Bible. It is what we celebrate at Christmas, Jesus our Emmanuel — God with us!

His invitation has been sent to us — Come, see, feel my touch, experience and know Me!

Two Masters – Reflections on Luke 16

What is created does not get to define itself. The creator defines His creation. He knows its purpose and proper use. For example, my vacuum cleaner cannot declare that it wants to be a refrigerator and then that is what it becomes. Cooling food is outside of what its purpose is and its proper use.

God is our creator. Because of sin, we tend to think the opposite — we create ourselves:

1. God created us to depend on Him. Once again we tend to think we are fine on our own doing our own thing.

2. God created us to be ruled by Him. However, we believe the opposite. We think we do what we want, when and how we want to.

We look around and see there has to be a God. So we want Him in our lives: His goodness, His blessings, His peace, and His joy. BUT, we do not relinquish the control of our lives to Him so He can work all these things into us.

Living like this will not work. It only makes us miserable because we are not living how we are created to live, owned by Him — His treasured possession.

Jesus warns us of trying to live the double life — for God and for Ourselves. He says it cannot be done. (This is reflected in our relationship with money- it’s pursuit and how we spend it.)

”“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”“

Luke 16:13 NIV

There is only one way to peace, love, and joy, surrender to God!

The Influence- Reflections on Luke 13

Jesus preached the good news of the Kingdom of God and taught about wherever He went.

He compared it to a mustard seed. A tiny seed that when planted grows to tree that birds can perch in. He also compared it to yeast that works its way into the dough and takes effect on it. The Kingdom of God grows and it influences everything it comes in contact with.

This should be the reality of it in our lives. Jesus and His kingship should grow and influence every aspect of our lives. This growth and influence will overflow onto all those around us. As it does, we will experience what the people of Jesus time did when they encountered Him. They “were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.” (Verse 20)

We will be delighted too!
